Bottom Line: My son fell in love with Chess after trying this app. He played through all the tutorials in one sitting.
In Dinosaur Chess, Scottish Professor MacDinosaur teaches a child chess though 11 interactive lessons and more than 20 mini-games. The Professor's lessons are thorough but broken down enough so as not to become confusing to a new player. The player's dinosaur starts out having just hatched from an egg and grows as his chess acumen develops.
The child can also play full games against dinosaur opponents (what's cooler than player chess with a dinosaur) and there is a mini-game where the player has to scare away other dinos. A terrific feature is that the more advanced the child's chess play gets the bigger their opponent dinosaur in the mini-game grows.
The app also tracks the child's lessons done, games won, fights won and pieces taken. I included preschool as one of the age categories because there were several reviewers in the app store that said their younger children, as old as three, enjoyed the game and were learning from it.
Dinosaur Chess is an absolutely must-have educational app.
