MathBoard is a math quiz app that has a extremely large number of options for quiz-generation, meaning that it can be used with any child old enough to do math problems up to children learning square and cube roots. The app presents a quiz and has a chalkboard that can be used to write out calculations.
The awesome: There are options to create math tests involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, cube roots and square roots. Options can be changed for the type of math, whether the quiz is multiple choice or fill in the blank, number range and just about anything else you can think of. (Actually there are so many options it gets a little annoying.) The app has a terrific feature that shows the child how to solve the problem step-by-step.Parents can also create tests of all the questions the child got wrong on previous tests. It is an extremely thorough and well-done app and there is a free trial for addition.
Not as awesome: I'd rather have my kids get accustomed to doing calculations on lined paper than the app's pretend blackboard, which is a little awkward to use. Test results can be saved but all test-progression (having it get more difficult as skills improve) has to come from a change in the settings. I think it would be better if the settings were all on one separate page so that the main page was less busy and easier to navigate. It costs $4.99 and is iPad only.
