Let me start by saying that I'm a big Disney guy, especially Disney/Pixar. I had to hold back the tears when I saw Finding Nemo and, of course, at the end of Toy Story 3, and I thought Wall-E was one of the most romantic films I have ever seen.
I love watching the movies, going to the theme parks, and playing with all the cool toys. Of course, I do it all for my kids. (wink)
So, today I'm going with a "guilty pleasure" review, the Disney Movies app. There isn't anything ABC educational about this app, but my 10-year old tinkers with it so much that I looked it over.
The app is simply a way for Disney to try to sell its movies, but it's well done and free. It features movies on video, available for download, still in theaters and coming soon. My kids were thrilled to see the trailers for Cars 2.
For each title, there is a description, clips/trailers, a link to buy the movie or find a theater and a link to Disney Movie Rewards. The app includes mostly newer releases or recent re-releases, as opposed to the older Disney animated classics.
The find a theater link can certainly be helpful and I like the idea, now that I know about the app, of showing it to my kids when it's movie time and asking them to pick out what they'd like to see.
I also like to imagine how each movie might be turned into a roller coaster.
This app also provides yet another example why most of the iTunes app reviews are worthless. A TON of people gave this app one star because it didn't provide them full-length Disney features for free.
