Bottom Line: My kids favorite ebook!
Banana Ninja is a graphic novel-style ebook about a heroic banana and his quest to save the stock at Pat's Corner Grocery from the evil Rat Boss and his army of rat henchmen.
That’s correct...it’s about a superhero banana.
My first impressions of the app were that it was a remarkably creative and well-done ebook. Unique and funny. Probably four stars, I thought.
And then my kids got ahold of it...
My kids LOVE Banana Ninja...and by love I mean they act out/ recite the parts by heart. And by love I mean Lily wants to be Banana Ninja for Halloween, so I'm already on eBay looking for small banana costumes.
E was so inspired by Banana Ninja that he wrote a book about other potential fruit and vegetable based superheroes. (Are you listening Skyreader Media? I've got a Mega Mango character to sell you...)
I don't want to give too much away, but if you want an idea of the creativity here, Banana Ninja is joined by a sidekick, a cinnamon bun who is also into martial arts.

The standard read-to-me, read myself, auto-read functions are here. There is some touch interactivity in the story and the reader can use a page menu to move between by swiping up. There is also a table of contents to move by chapter.
There are some things not like to like: There is no option to have the words highlighted when read or read when touched. There is definitely a great deal of grocery-item-on-grocery-item-violence. It's probably too much for toddlers.
But when my kids adore something involving reading/creativity/fun this much, my usually meticulous standards have to be suspended. Five stars.
