Bottom Line: 24x7 digital, the developer that has produced three of the 13 apps we've given five stars (Teach Me: Toddler, Teach Me: Kindergarten and Teach Me: First Grade) hits another educational app home run with Times Tables.
Times Tables delivers the same quality as the Teach Me series at the same excellent price (now $1.99) The app offers five learning/studying functions: times tables grid, flash cards, flash card lists, apple trees and printable worksheets and four play activities: times tables drill, random problems, challenge and timed quiz.
Of the learn options, I liked apple trees best. The child can select both numbers of a multiplicaton problem and see the solution appear in the form of apples on trees. For example, if 5x6 is selected, five apple trees with six apples each appear and the narrator says "5x6=30." As each tree is pressed, the app counts upwards and displays the appropriate numbers...in this case: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30.
My choice of the play options is random problems, which allows the player/parent to set the multiplier limit (5-12) and how many problems to include in the timed quiz.
And remember those are just two of nine learn/play exercises in the app. There are MANY math apps that cost more and offer less.
The scores for the drill and random problem tests are saved and parents can view specific right and wrong answers under a "recent answers" function. Answers can be given via numeric keypad or 24x7's TeachTeach handwriting (among other customization settings) AND the app saves info for up to five different players.
My only complaint about the app is that I wish all of the different options it includes (flash cards, apple trees, etc.) could be merged into one quiz.
For $1.99, though, this is an awesome, must-download app for children learning multiplication.
