Marcel, by developer KidsAndBeyond, is the story of a bookworm who finds a magical apple that produces an endless supply of books for him to read. Bookworm paradise! The apple serves as a bit of mobile-home (and eventually spaceship) of sorts that allows Marcel to jaunt around sharing his love of reading through a year of changing seasons. The story is certainly an imaginative one...and did I mention that Marcel is a worm who has arms?!
There is animation on each page, usually Marcel crawling about, and parts of the image that can be touched to activate, such as a turtle-friend moving its head in and out of its shell.
On the downside, the words are not highlighted when read or read when touched. They're also a bit small for young readers. There is no page-swipe feature as the pages must be turned by touching a small, turned-up corner at the bottom of each page.
I've got Marcel at a "take-a-look" three stars. If you like the simplified, non-modern look, or just want to see a worm with arms, it will be well worth the $1.99.
