If someone were to ask me what app they should avoid developing for kids I would say something with matching or puzzles, unless they have some kind of amazing, new idea.
But how can you say that Smart Apps guy?
Because there are tons of good matching and puzzle games already and, perhaps more importantly, lots of them are FREE.
The case in point is Mini Mining by Airy Labs. It's a well-done matching game; kids can play by themselves, against a friend, or even online in kid-safe environment against other kids around the world.
And it is free.
From our review:
Once the game gets going, the goal is to make the matches the fastest. The full screen of unflipped cards is shown momentarily, so those with a really good, quick memory will do much better than those of us who do not. E beat me two out of three games. Matching certain items provides more points and power-ups. For example, matching rockets increases your card flip-speed and matching lamps provides a quick glimpse of the board.
There are easy and hard modes, which change the number of cards to match on each page.
Mini Mining is very well-done, especially in the online play where there seems to be no lag or other problems whatsoever. It is especially well thought-out and developed and definitely the best matching-game app in the App Store that I have tried.

* Rather than just post a list with links we're going to find one free app each day, make sure it's worth downloading, and post the info.
Here are the rules:
1) The app has to have some substance as free. In other words, it can't be a few seconds of play and then require an in-app purchase.
2) My kids or I have to like it.
3) It can't have ads all over it.
