We're starting another big giveaway today, this time for an app that assists special needs children with communication challenges in conveying their needs through the use of pictures. We haven't reviewed this app yet, but the iTunes description is amazing and the developer suggests that it can be used as a customizable PECS or AAC tool on the iPad OR iPhone!

We've got a review coming soon for Jeffy's World, which teaches kids some basic astronomy and other interesting data...but in the meantime we're giving away 10 copies!
My daughter just recently asked me "Why is it night?" and perhaps now I can give her a better answer than "because it is dark."

Today's Good Free App of the Day is an interactive storybook featuring a grandma tortoise telling stories that a child can alter before and during the telling! No review yet, but it seems very cute and well-done. The developers are planning to release six of these in a series and want you to have the first one FREE (so, if you like it, you'll buy the rest...)

Bottom Line: Might appeal to the more fashion-conscious child, but in-app purchases and links to Twitter, Facebook, and App Store mean it needs to be supervised.

If someone were to ask me what app they should avoid developing for kids I would say something with matching or puzzles, unless they have some kind of amazing, new idea.
