If you watch the App Store rankings at all, you know that the Disney app Where's My Perry? has been dominating the top spot on the paid and free app charts for some time.
Where's My Perry? is a sequel of sorts, of the very popular app Where's My Water?, which my kids and wife and I played together until we finished it. The free version of Where's My Water? is currently No. 13 on our Top 100 Free Apps for Kids list.
Even if you already have the non-free version of Where's My Perry?, the free version contains more than 12 levels NOT in the paid one!
The free version has a few ads on the title and level screens, but nothing on the game screen and no in-apps.
Here is my theory for the game's existence:
Several upper management people at Disney, in a tall building somewhere dressed in suits and other executive attire, are sitting at a long, sleek-looking black table.
Suit 1: OK, they're almost finished with the sequel to the Where's My Water app.
Suit 2 (at end of table): What was the return on that game?
Suit 3 (looks at papers) A kabillion.
Suit 2: That sounds good. Sue, what is marketing trying to push?
Suit 4: The Phineas and Ferb cartoon. The kids seem to love it and they really want a new app done quickly. You know how those marketing people get.
Suit 2: Yes. (thinks) So, why don't we just combine the new Where's My Water with the Phineas and Ferb show and make it all one app. Then everyone's happy.
Suit 1: It will take a bit of reprogramming, but I think it's a great idea. You're a genius Bob.
Suit 3: What about the cute, metrosexual alligator from the first app? We just get rid of Swampy? My kids love Swampy.
Suit 2: Sorry, Tom, but Swampy doesn't have a TV show or video games or anything else to synergize with. Anyone have anything else?
Suit 3: But Swampy...
Suit 2: OK, let's go to work people.
