Big Grips Frame is advertised as the iPad Case for Kids and there's a definite toy like quality to this squishy, grabbable case.
And this is a sturdy lad. We put it to the test with the aid of Tot's older brother Max who was only to happy to perform the drop test.
And yes, it survived. Admittedly it did fall on carpet but the case is so thick and foamy that the iPad almost bounced.
Tot also put it through the bite test and tried chewing it. It passed with flying colours, no visible teeth marks and she was unable to tear a bit off with her gnashers.
The iPad can safely be postioned to watch movies or complete tasks when placed in the stand (which is sold separately). The only issue I had with this is when the frame was placed in the portrait postion and placed in the stand, Tot leaned on it a little heavily and the frame fell out of it. It seems to be far more secure when placed in the horizontal landscape postion.
Also Big Grips is a Big case; this is not a case you will pop easily into a small schoolbag especially with the frame. It's a chunky fellow. And because the frame is thick it means access to the charger and other controls is just a little bit more tricky than I'd like. Tot couldn't put the charger in without help when the Big Grips frame was on and she's able to do this easily and unaided without a case.
However, the Big Grips is a great case, especially for younger kids, and is reasonably priced at $34.95 for the frame alone or $49.95 with the stand. It comes in six different colours and is so easy to clean. We only had it one day when the Tot drew on it with hair conditioner but everything came off without leaving a stain or mark.
The frame also smells nice, which is a big deal for my older son. So it passed his 'sniff' test too.
And you could also use it as a real frame for a picture of a 'I'm pretending to be really sad' child.
So after much deliberation, throwing about, squeezing, chewing and chomping, the Tot and I are going to give the Big Grips Frame 3 and a half stars.
If you'd like to buy a Big Grips or read more about them head on over here.

I have a M-Edge on ours it seems sturdy enough but I haven't put it through and tests.
the frame fits nice and tight, but I have trouble getting the volume and turn off buttons to work properly.
When you were testing the Big Grips was it easy to get to and use these functions?

We love ours. Getting to the volume isn't easy. You have to stick your finger in there. But to me that's not a huge deal. I mainly want the iPad to survive. Putting the charger in isn't perfectly easy either, but that's not something my 5year old does, anyway. I can manage it. When I got ours one of the reviewers said it was dropped from 4 feet and just bounced! I was sold. Another friend who got one said a review she read said the iPad survived being thrown out the car window with the Big Grips on. Wow. Ours has been colored on (by a friends child) and bitten (by my child) and its still in great shape. We don't have the stand, but if I prop it up on something, the texture is nice because it doesnt slide easily. The foamy-ness makes for some resistance, which is nice. Ours does go I my sons bookbag, and his is a toddler size bookbag. I'm sticking with our Big Grips, but I'm excited to see how the other kid friendly cases do!
