** Rated 12+ this app contains mature content that many will not find suitable for young children. **
A must-download for any adult with an iPad. I would also recommend it for parents and teachers of high school students to share with their children and students.
A huge collection of photographs and other forms of media, in-depth features and terrific insights into the work of a photo-journalist.
If you would like to download a copy of The Wider Image (FREE, iPad only) then please support Smart Apps for Kids by using the link below:
If this app weren't free I would tell you to buy it. Produced by Thompson Reuters, The Wider Image takes some of the 1,600 pictures distributed daily by the Reuters news agency and puts them in an app. Start by browsing the 100 or so pictures on the home page and check back often as the app is updated with new content frequently. Find a picture you are intrigued by and tap on it to reveal a whole series of pictures together with a story about them, as told by the journalist who took the shots.
In addition to still photographs there are panoramic views like the one in the Vancouver bookshop above, slideshows, before and after composites and audio and video recordings. If you find a story you love you can save it in your favorites or email it to someone else you think might also appreciate it.
Want to learn more about the journalist reponsible for the pictures? Just click on the link next to their name. You will see other examples of their work as well as read a piece by them outlining their philosophies with respect to telling stories, what motivates them, how they got into photography and so on.
There are numerous ways to search for pictures other than the home screen. You can look for images sorted by date taken, or scroll through a gallery of the photographers and check out the work of the people who look interesting to you. You can also look at pictures sorted by themes like Challenge and Identity.
My favorite view however is the location one - swipe over a map of the globe and find pictures from places far away that you have never heard of, let alone visited.
Or pictures of things that feel too close to home, like the ones of the artifacts that will be housed in the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York.
Highly recommended.
From iTunes:
The Wider Image is an unprecedented photography experience from Reuters, the world’s largest news agency. Created exclusively for the iPad, this immersive app reimagines news photography to bring images and information to life.
Start with over 100 compelling stories by Reuters photographers across the world, with new stories added daily. Get the wider story. Transform the way you see.
- Access some of the best stories by Reuters photographers worldwide, often with a human perspective beyond the news headlines.
- Get more context on every story - interact with image sequences, read expanded facts and quotes, reflect on the before and after, hear words and sounds.
- See what’s happening in places you care about. Discover stories in places you may never have known.
- Get to know the people behind the images through photographer profiles and in-the-field witness commentary.
- Visually compare social, demographic and economic differences between the story’s location and your own.

I in addition to my guys ended up looking through the excellent hints found on your web blog and then unexpectedly developed an awful suspicion I had not expressed respect to the blog owner for those secrets. My men appeared to be absolutely very interested to read through them and already have quite simply been taking pleasure in these things. I appreciate you for really being quite helpful as well as for deciding on some outstanding tips most people are really needing to be aware of. My very own honest regret for not expressing appreciation to earlier. cheap oakley sunglasses http://app.todo2.co.uk/fake-oakley-sunglasses.html
