Through pictures, sounds, and age-appropriate games, Bertie guides your youngster through the ABCs with ease. Bertie's app is probably best for tots around ages 2-4 years.
If you'd like to download Berite's ABC ( $1.99 iPad/iPod), use this neat button, and make the Smart Apps for Kids people smile:
The nice folks at The Story Mouse already have a good number of apps, including ones featuring Bertie, but in this app he is teaching letters and sounds for the very first time.
A few different options are available when it comes to letter learning in this app. Kiddos can pick to view all of Bertie's ABC letter names (in capital or lowercase presentation), hear the sound the letters make, or play some games involving all 26 of our beloved letters.
Each letter is associated with a picture, all of which are very true to life, and not what I've heard associated in other ABC apps before.
U is for underground and not umbrella, and P is for parsley and not penguin or piano. Hooray for new vocabulary!
3 games are available for your little one to play-The Carrot Quiz, Matching, and Big and Little. Matching is just as it sounds-match the letter to their twin. Big and Little teaches tots to pair the capital and lowercase letter sets, which is a pretty advanced skill for beginning learners!
The carrot quiz was the most interesting to me. 4 cards are presented, and the sweet lady narrator of the app asks a variety of
questions- What says *insert letter sound name here*, what does *picture word goes here* start with, and so on.
The more correct answers, the more carrots Bertie gets to munch on! I was impressed with the variety of questions asked, and the way it incorporated all the learning from the app and not just one section.
If letter learning is going on in your home, or even will be soon, consider inviting Bertie along for the journey! He is quiet, doesn't eat much, and pretty cute on top of all the learning he brings with him.
