Watch the fabulous Ellie bring this app to live here:
Dr. Panda Train is a brand new app from our friends at Dr. Panda. Just when I think I know all about Dr. P, I find out he is also a railroad engineer. This new app lets your child ride along with Dr. Panda as he transports both cargo and passengers to various stops along the way.
We start out at one of the train stations where many familiar friends are waiting to board the train.. Tapping a character on the platform causes them to board the train. Other characters on the platform are there to pick up passengers. We know who they are there to get by the little “thought bubble” pic above their head. Just tap the corresponding rider on the train and they hop off to join their friend. They “pay” at this time with items for Dr. P’s inventory.
Once the train is moving, we can zoom in on the passenger car to visit the riders. Travelers can use things out of Dr. Panda’s inventory to occupy themselves during the ride. Give them beverages, snacks, electronic devices, etc. to help them enjoy the ride. Don’t forget to punch their tickets!
The last car on the train is the open-air cargo car. We can carry cargo to different stations where friends are waiting to pick it up. Offload their desired items using the crain and receive payment for the goods. Use the crane to load new items onto the train for delivery.
When zoomed out from the train, users can control the speed and blow the horn as they go. They can choose whether or not to stop at different stations as they come up or to speed on by. As the train rolls through different landscapes, users can discover all sorts of fun, interactive elements along the way.
What I liked:
- It’s always fun to visit with our familiar friends from Dr. Panda’s world.
- My kids were both always train nuts, so the subject matter was fun for us.
- Y’all know I’m always a fan of good apps with stress-free, open play.
- Ok, it might be nit-picky, but… I really wish that we had the choice to use a train powered by something other than coal. Maybe something electric.
- I hope that the developer will add in a little more detail like purchasing tickets and choosing destinations, just to give the app a more comprehensive feel.
Overall, Dr. Panda Train would be a welcome addition to any child’s app library. The folks at Dr. Panda can always be depended on for good, quality apps. Four and a half stars!
