Bottom Line: An incredibly well thought-out open-ended adventure game for kids ages 3-9. Allows kids to style their own experience every time, giving the app nearly unlimited potential for repeat play. I don't think my daughter will be surrendering the iPad anytime soon now that she's discovered this one. **FREE lite version available**
I knew as soon as I saw this app icon that this was going to be a valuable addition to my daughter's iPad story collection. We love sharing books at bedtime with the iPad because we can read with the light off. The Mouse and The Meadow is a whimsical tale by Chad Wallace that has been reworked into an interactive storybook app for your child's reading pleasure. Not just a story about a mouse in a meadow, but an ingenious insight into the lives of a whole menagerie of creatures. This is a story your child will want to read again and again, and is on sale for $2.99 (from $4.99 til 3/31/14)
Bottom Line: Love, The App is a tad dark with a lovely light at the end of the story that reminds readers there are always layers to uncover with people. The transition from paper to iOS has been beautifully executed to create a truly interactive story of peepholes, torn pages and movement without any animation of characters. The app could benefit from the addition of narration and page selection, but is a great find, especially for children who might have trouble fitting in or understanding the behaviors of others.
It's time to get reading with your preschooler in ZingyLand! You can sort and browse through a large selection of e-books based on your preschooler's interest and age level and store them all in a handy library bookshelf, perfect for easy storage (much unlike my mess of a bookshelf at home).
This FREE app comes with one FREE e-book download, and each additional book can be purchased for just $1.99.
