Bottom Line: Designed for kids ages 3-8, Shape it! is great for shape and color recognition, but also for inspiring imagination. With three modes of game play, this app is great for use with multiple children or only one, and it does indeed have something to offer kids at both ends of the age range.
There is something about raccoons that I just love. I can’t explain it. The cute little cartoon raccoon and other forest creatures are just one of the many things that drew me to TinyHands' Raccoon Treehouse app. Cute, high quality graphics only go so far. Luckily this app has lots more to offer! With 12 educational activities focusing on sorting, matching, patterns, colors and more, children will have fun while learning many key skills.
Bottom Line: Kindergarten Readiness promises to help prepare kids for kindergarten with early math, early literacy, cognitive development, self-care/motor skills and communication/social skills in one app. Unfortunately that's a tad misleading, since many of the skills are merely checklists with tips for parents to help kids offline. That being said, the in-app games that are provided are a good first step toward fostering a love of learning.
Bottom Line: Grandpa in Space delivers excellent space-themed learning games about planets, shapes, math, opposites, sorting, and rhyming, as well as great video shorts from the International Space Station. Aimed at kids ages 5-8, this adventure is led by our spunky hero, Grandpa. Fairlady Media did a great job keeping the fun and learning evenly "spaced" to prevent boredom and encourage kiddos to travel unprompted.
