Today's Free App of the Day* is Toontastic, an app we rated five stars when it wasn't free! This app does contain in-app purchases but it does not hard-sell them and can be definitely enjoyed as is, although the app is so good I recommend buying the ones you think your child or student would enjoy.
Also, I've looked all over for info on how long Toontastic is free and I can't find anything so it may be not-free very soon!
Fantastic. E quickly grabbed a paper and pencil to start on a script and was yelling "action!" just a few moments later. In about 30 minutes, using it for the first time, his first cartoon was finished.
The app takes children step-by-step through the process of creating their own, simple animated cartoon. The interface is very sharp and easy to learn, guiding the child through each step. They pick a scene, add characters, dialogue, movement and music. They can even design their own scenes and characters within the app. There's really nothing like it that I have tried in the app store.

* Rather than just post a list with links we're going to find one free app each day, make sure it's worth downloading, and post the info.
Here are the rules:
1) The app has to have some substance as free. In other words, it can't be a few seconds of play and then require an in-app purchase.
2) My kids or I have to like it.
3) It can't have ads all over it.
Toontastic is indeed a wonderful app. I met the developers (great guys) and they led me to believe the app will be free indefinitely. ThatsEnjoy!

This is one of my sons favorite apps. He has special needs and this is such a wonderful way for him & I to interact together and it is something that he can actually stay focused on. I love to see the "movie" at the end that we created. It has music to add suspense, laughter, etc to the feel of the movie..which I love b/c when we were making a story together..I was able to go through the different music with him and work with him on what music sounded "sad", which one sounded "scary" to help him with emotions as well. There are so many great things to be said about this app, not to mention the fact that it is free. That is incredible! It has so much to offer and even though it is a game of play..it has a lot of hidden learning inside. At the end, you as the parent have the option of posting it to "toon tube" where other kids can check out your childs movie. Pretty awesome! I would love to see more from this developer..they are incredible!!
